TIME LAPSE USED AS CONTACT TRACING TOOL

Brinno Team
TLC2020 TLC2020

Easy installation

No hardwiring required. Cameras are battery powered and can be placed anywhere that requires monitoring

Capture Interval

Manually chose capture interval or video playback rate depending on your unique needs

Filming Schedule

Use camera schedule settings to record during preset time windows e.g. 8am-6pm, Monday-Friday

Long Lasting Power

Running on 4AA batteries, the TLC2020 can last up to 99 days

Large shared spaces like university campuses, lobbies, and shops can create contact tracing issues that can lead to gaps in virus and disease spread prevention. Brinno’s time lapse cameras can be easily installed in high-risk spaces and can record and monitor flows of people over long periods of time. If someone becomes infected, the stored images can be used to track those who might have come in contact with the infected individual.

照片追溯

Identify those in close proximity to the infected individual using time lapse photography.

Installation

TLC2020 is a compact, battery powered camera that can be installed anywhere. With a 118° view angle, large areas can be recorded using a single camera.

Auto-shooting

Time lapse photography uses timed photography instead of continuous video recording. Time interval and shooting schedules can be set to ensure you never miss a shot.

Photo recap

Daily video files can be converted into individual photos using the Brinno Player. Each photo is time and date stamped.

Q: Because the camera is not continuously recording, is there any risk of missed shots?

A: According to the Disease Prevention Regulations issued by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, "exposure is defined as a prolonged period (greater than 15 minutes) of face-to-face contact without proper protection". Therefore, we recommend using a time interval of 5-10 minutes to effectively record all extended face-to-face contacts.

School Administration:

Why:
High traffic areas, classrooms, troublesome attendance and data collection, and CCTV not suitable in some areas.

Solution:
Used to track student and teacher movements in classroom.

In spite of the global coronavirus pandemic Taiwan has been able to keep university campuses open. Campuses are seen as high-risk areas due to their large student populations. If a positive infection case were to occur, a university would need to act fast to contain the breach and identify all those potentially affected. At the present time, most tertiary institutions do not have a seating plans for students and classes can have students from various disciplines, increasing the risk of virus transmission.

Original practice:

At the start of the class, teaching assistants take a picture of the students’ seating arrangement in addition to rollcall and a brief written record of student seating location. Information was then uploaded to the cloud for record keeping.

Cons:

The following problems were identified while using the original practice.

1.Added workload:

Daily rollcall, written record of student seating local, and class photo taken. All information is subsequently uploaded onto the cloud. All these steps increase the workload required for teaching assistants and professors.

2.Difficult to implement and manage :

Students can be late or move around the classroom during a lesson. It is impossible for the teaching assistant to record the entire lesson. This can cause omissions from official records and lead to holes in epidemic prevention planning.

3. Inconsistent data quality :

The equipment, camera angle, photo quality, and person recording information can change on a daily basis leading to inconsistent data.

4. Privacy concerns :

With increasing privacy concerns, organizations need to be critical of adopting CCTV cameras and other forms of surveillance that upload data onto the cloud.

Brinno Time Lapse Solution:

Department of Creative Design at Yunlin University of Science and Technology undertook a collaborative project with Brinno to set up time lapse cameras in classrooms, meeting spaces, and workshops. This project allowed for the cameras to be tested in real application scenarios and the following improvements were identified:

1. Significantly reduced workload :

Scheduled shooting settings allowed for photos to be automatically taken without needing daily intervention.

2. Easy data retrieval:

Files are automatically date and time stamped and can be viewed individually using playback software. With the automatic time stamp, files have important information easily available at a quick glance.

3. Wide view angle

One camera covers the whole 50 student classroom. Shooting angle is fixed so data can be quickly analyzed.

4. Easy installation:

The Brinno camera is battery powered, no need for wiring or construction, anyone can install the camera themselves.

5. Low maintenance :

Batteries last up to 99 days, cameras provide stable results without needing complicated maintenance. All that is required is occasional file backups and dust cleaning.

6. Privacy:

Photos are only taken during the epidemic and only used in the case that a classmate becomes infected. Data is saved internally, no need to fear hacking or other privacy concerns.

Recording

Small schools (language schools, nursery schools, music schools, after-school tutoring centers)

Why:
Constant movement of students and teachers from different backgrounds. CCTV not suitable in many cases.

Solution:
Used as rollcall support and identify situations of group contact.

Shared workspaces (offices, training centers, studios, meeting rooms, conferences)

Why:
Shared workspaces have a high volume of people coming and going. Installing CCTV cameras may create backlash from employees and rented spaces may have installation limitations in terms of hardwiring.

Solution:
Track movements of people and if someone becomes infected, identify those who may be affected using date and time stamped images for easy tracking.

Community management (lobbies, gyms, community centers, arenas)

Why:
Community activity centers can hold events that last several hours and lobbies are regularly frequented for extended periods of time but neither monitor movements of visitors. CCTV cameras may create privacy concerns and monetary restraints.

Solution:
Document instances of cross contact between visitors at various community centers and events.

Small business owners (cafes, restaurants, cafeterias)

Why:
Busy establishments have many customers coming and going, difficult to maintain proper social distancing and masks need to be removed while consuming food and beverages. Rented establishments may not be able to install CCTV cameras because they require hardwiring.

Solution:
Record customers and track where they were and when.

Large and small-scale construction projects and remote worksites

Why:
Construction sites are unpredictable and in many cases stacking trades or following social distancing guidelines is unavoidable. Using CCTV is not an available option because of hardwiring limitations.

Solution:
Create a record of workers on site and monitor when and where they were allowing for site-wide protection. Limit the epidemic effects on your site and avoid site closures.
